DarkRP Rules
2. General
2.1 – Random Death Match (RDM)
Random death match (RDM) is the act of killing or attempting to kill (ARDM) another player unprovoked. You may only kill another player within reason (e.g., raiding, self defence, etc.). Self defence is only to be used if you have been damaged; someone shooting at you but not hitting you does not prompt self defence.
2.2 – New Life Rule (NLR)
After death you must forget everything encompassing other players; you are not allowed to kill someone in revenge after death. If death by raid, you are not to return to your base before the raid has been finished. You are not to interact with players/entities near your place of death within 3 minutes, however you are allowed to pass through the area.
2.3 – Realism
You must always act appropriately to your job/rule. For example, citizens are not allowed to enforce government law, police officers are not allowed to purchase narcotics. You must attempt to preserve your life and act accordingly. For example, you are not allowed to commit suicide if kidnapped.
2.4 – Props
The use of props to gain an unfair advantage in any way is prohibited (e.g., propclimbing/propblocking). NPCs are not to be blocked off.
2.5 – Demotions
Demotions, the use of the /demote command, are only to be carried out with legitimate roleplay reasons. Reasons out of character (OOC) are not legitimate and therefore not grounds for a demotion. For example, a police officer basing and not enforcing the law is a valid reason for demotion; disliking a player is not a valid reason for demotion and is to be classed as FailRP.
2.6 – Laws & The Mayor
The mayor may create any law within reason. Laws which are unrealistic are seen as loopholes to random arrest (RDA) and are to be classed as FailRP. For example, laws surrounding jaywalking are prohibited. Laws are not to encourage kill on sight (KOS) as a first resort; arrest on sight (AOS) should always be the first resort. If the law-breaking individual is non-violently resisting arrest you are to use the taser-gun. Lethal force is only to be used if the individual is violently resisting arrest (e.g., attacking the officer or others).
2.7 – Police Department
The lobby of the police department is to be seen as public property and shall not be locked unless provoked (e.g., someone is raiding the police department). A citizen existing beyond the lobby prompts 3 fair warnings telling the individual to leave; if not effective, arrest on sight (AOS) is allowed.
2.8 – Scamming
Scamming is defined as intentionally not fulfilling an agreed exchange between players when one side has provided their goods/service (e.g., buying guns without paying the full amount). Scamming is not allowed. We encourage the use of recording software during deals outside of the !unbox system to ensure fairness.
2.9 – Stealing
When stealing an entity from another player you must play as a criminal job, have seen the product you are stealing before-hand and advertise it using the /advert command. If the player you are stealing from did not have said entity/product it is to be classed as random death match (RDM).
3. Properties/Building
3.1 – Building & KOS Signs
Building signs exempt you from any and all RP and are only allowed to be placed in front of property which you yourself own. Owning a building sign disallows the use of entities which can be used to make money (e.g., money printers, weed plants, meth labs). Kill on sight (KOS) signs serve the purpose of warning other players that lethal action is to be used if breaking the rules of said sign and are only allowed to be placed in front of property which you yourself own. Kill on sight (KOS) is permitted if someone is clearly raiding your base, even without a sign (e.g., picklocking a door). The only reasons allowed to be displayed on a kill on sight sign are the following: Inside your building, on your property, shooting at the inside of your property, trying to kill you, harassing you or other players inside of your property. For example, “being annoying” is not a valid reason and is to be classed as random death match (RDM). Signs specifying “KOS all valid reasons” are allowed and include the 5 reasons above. All KOS and building signs must be visible to players outside of your property and include reasonable font and size of lettering. Minimum size of lettering for KOS and building signs is 50.
3.2 – Keypad Fading Doors
You may have a maximum of 4 fading doors controlled by keypads which the raider has to crack in order to enter the base. Stacking fading doors is not permitted. A raider must be able to access all items of value by cracking keypads less than or equal to 4 times in total (e.g., printers, weed plants, meth labs). Each keypad may control a maximum of 1 fading door and each fading door may only be controlled by 2 keypads. Keypads are not to be hidden in order to hinder the raider or prevent access. Shooting windows may not be controlled by keypads, but should instead be controlled by buttons. All keypads must include a reasonable delay between fading a door and unfading it. You are not allowed to close/open fading doors during a raid to hinder the raider. The space between fading doors has to at least fit 2 players in all directions excluding up/down.
3.3 – Button Fading Doors
You are not allowed to have any fading doors controlled by button(s) which the raider has to use in order to collect/destroy all items of value or kill the defender. Buttons are only to be used to open/close fading doors and toggle must be enabled.
3.4 – Shooting Windows
The use of shooting windows/positions is permitted unless resulting in unfair advantage. World-Glow is allowed if used to look at the raider, however cannot be shot through to attack the raider as a one-way. During gunfire both parties must have about the same amount of visibility to one-another. Unfair angles which make the raider visible while keeping the defender entirely hidden are not allowed. Shooting windows/holes must at least be the size of a 05x05x05 cube.
3.5 – Accessibility
You must be able to access the property on foot without having to perform specific actions (e.g., crouching/jumping). This includes bases that utilise world doors, sewer pipes, windows, ledges, roofs and players are expected to build the necessary ramps/catwalks without disturbing other players. Bases which are disorientating/hard to navigate or feature unnecessary turns, dead ends or anything else which unfairly extends access are prohibited. Cameras must be able to be destroyed by the raider during the raid.
3.6 – Blocking Areas of the map
You may not block off large areas of the map without a reasonable passage usable by all (e.g., blocking off tunnels, industrial, residential). Basing inside of tunnels is allowed but must contain a passage at least 2 players high and 4 players wide. Said passage is not seen as part of your property.
3.7 – Checkpoints
Government checkpoints are defined as buildings blocking off a certain part of the map to temporarily stop players and search them for illegal guns and are allowed. Checkpoints must be quick, manned at all times and take less than 30 seconds to pass unless the player is carrying an illegal item. If not manned a checkpoint must be open. Adding charges to pass through a checkpoint is prohibited.
3.8 – Bank
The only jobs permitted to build in the bank are the banker and personnel hired by the banker. Neither the banker nor personnel are allowed to be involved in an inside job of the bank. The banker is legally allowed to keep printers for other players inside of the bank and may charge a fee for this service. This disallows any government personnel from raiding the bank because of printers.
3.9 – Traps
Any and all traps are prohibited (e.g., fading floors which makes the player fall down). Players must be able to exit the same way they came in (i.e., no steep slopes).
3.10 – Street Vendors
Street vendors, such as gun dealers, may set up their shop on the side of the road unless it disturbs other players and their RP.
4. Role play
4.1 – Adverts
It is required to advertise when raiding, assisting, countering, mugging, stealing, kidnapping or warning others to make your intentions known using the /advert command. The advertisement must be specific to the action you are about to perform and may not include multiple unrelated actions. When any of these actions are finished you are to advertise the end of said action (e.g., /advert raid over). Advertisements have to be easily understandable and clearly display your intended action.
4.2 – Warnings
You may only warn others for justifiable reasons (e.g., following you, not leaving your property). You must warn them thrice (3) with 5 seconds between each warning, after which you are allowed to kill the other player. You are not to use this system as an excuse to kill someone.
4.3 – Evading
Leaving the server or running to spawn to evade RP events or punishments is prohibited. This includes committing suicide during a mug etc.
4.4 – Raiding
You must wait at least 15 minutes when raiding the same player again and 5 minutes when raiding different players. A raid may take up to 10 minutes. You are only allowed to destroy cameras after you have advertised raid. Raiding must be advertised before entering the building, and Job roles cannot be changed until the raid is complete.
4.5 – Mugging
Criminal jobs are allowed to mug other players for a maximum of $25,000. You must give the victim at least 30 seconds to comply with your demands. You must wait at least 15 minutes when mugging the same player and 5 minutes when mugging different players. Kill on sight (KOS) is allowed if the victim tries to run away. Victims are not allowed to fight back during a mug unless they had a weapon out before the mug began, however they are allowed to run away.
4.6 – Kidnapping
The kidnapper job may kidnap and demand a ransom of up to $50,000 for citizens and up to $150,000 for government officials. You may keep a hostage for a maximum of 15 minutes. You must wait at least 30 minutes when kidnapping the same player again and 15 minutes when kidnapping different players. Kill on sight (KOS) is allowed if the victim tries to run away. Victims are not allowed to fight back during a kidnap unless they had a weapon out before the kidnapping began, however they are allowed to run away.
4.7 – PD & Bank
New life rule (NLR) does not apply for the defenders of a PD or bank raid.
4.8 – Countering
Only criminal jobs and law enforcement are allowed to counter criminal RP events. Citizens are only allowed to counter events which affect or include the members of their faction or the people which they are basing with.
4.9 – Mic Spam
Mic-spamming is only allowed for hobos and DJs. Audios are only to be played at a reasonable volume and using appropriate content, nothing 18+.
4.10 – Faction Territories
If a faction is capturing a territory that your faction controls then kill on sight (KOS) is permitted. The capturing faction is not allowed to attack the owners of the territory before they have opened fire.
4.11 – Defending other players
You are only permitted to defend other players if they are within your faction or are basing with you. It is required that both players own the door of the building which they are basing inside. For example, “he is my friend” is not valid and is classed as random death match (RDM) if none of the previous requirements are met.
5. The Purge
5.1 Purge
During the purge players are allowed to random death match (RDM) and perform any RP event without the need of advertisement. New life rule (NLR) does not apply during this time.
